Virginia Safari Parks Opens For 2025 Season March 8
Event Next Date: 03/08/2025
The Virginia Safari Park will open for the season on Saturday, March 8, barring inclement weather and will be open daily at 9 a.m.
“We always look forward to welcoming visitors back to the Virginia Safari Park, but especially this year as we celebrate our 25th anniversary,” said Rick Mogensen, park director. “The Park first opened its gates on March 5, 2000 and we’ve been one of Virginia’s most popular destinations ever since.”
The Virginia Safari Park features three miles of drive-through wildlife viewing from the comfort of your own vehicle. Wagon tours are seasonally available as well. Visitors will enjoy and can feed hundreds of animals, many rare and endangered, that roam freely in a natural setting including huge elk, a wide variety of deer and antelope, bison, ostriches, zebra and many more. Roll down your window and extend a bucket of feed and you’ll get a visit from many of them wanting a snack.
Most visitors to the Park come for the scenic safari drive-thru, but fun doesn’t stop there. Stretch your legs and explore the 10-acre Safari Village where you can come eye-to-eye with the park’s tallest residents at the Giraffe Tower and even feel their tongues as the giraffes take romaine leaves from your palm. Enjoy the free-flight budgie aviary, pet all of your farmyard favorites in the petting area and explore the popular kangaroo walk-about.
The Virginia Safari Park is the only place in the United States to see the rare King Cheetah. Originally thought to be a separate subspecies, the king cheetah is an African cheetah that features recessive genes. This color variation is naturally occurring and creates a unique pattern. Their extra thick coat features thick blotchy patterns instead of the defined spots. Say hello to our star king cheetahs, siblings Sully and Shani while you're exploring the Safari Village.
Get even closer during unique animal encounters with two-toed sloths, African penguins and southern white rhinos. After visiting the Safari Village, browse the Safari Trading Post Gift Shop for unique souvenirs and gifts. From t-shirts to adorable plush friends and safari-specific souvenirs to conservation items there is something for everyone.
